Two good hockey fight photos in one week? Nah!

I love watching a good hockey fight. Shooting one on strobes … not so much.  They say timing is everything and when it comes to shooting on lights once you’ve committed to firing the shutter the next three seconds as they recycle can seem like an eternity Then it seems like your always on either the wrong end of the ice or there are five players between you and them.

But some days you get lucky and get an unobstructed front row view…you see the first punch…BOOM, shutter fires and the counting begins. One, one – thousand, two-one thousand, three-one thousand, BOOM, the shutter fires a second time, one one-thousand…wait the fights over? As any professional boxing photographer can tell you landing the photo of a punch to the head can be a bit challenging. Getting it one or two frames most days impossible. This week I got two. This might be the best week of my life ever!  Well, maybe not ever and not even top 100 but I love a good hockey fight and capturing one or two in a photo better!
